Spectrum Cable TV has recently conducted a digital upgrade to their systems which has affected the City of Westbrook. Customers should have received a notice from Spectrum about how this procedure would affect their service. All TVs now require cable boxes to receive Spectrum channels. Customers who had been connecting a cable line directly to their TVs will have to get cable boxes, which will be free at first, but eventually the company will start charging rent for the boxes. This fee will range from $7.50 to $11.75 a month in addition to any price increases that Spectrum seeks for 2019. Spectrum has notified its customers by sending letters and emails and running ads on its cable system to alert customers to the change.
A significant change for the community is in the channel locations for Westbrook's Community and Government access channels. Westbrook's community TV channels have traditionally been at Channel 2 and Channel 3, but Spectrum has moved them to 1301 and 1302.
Public broadcast is an important tool for the city to keep the citizens informed. Please note that if you have internet, live meetings are available on the City website www.westbrookmaine.com. From the home page click Government and Westbrook Community TV or visit https://westbrooktv.viebit.com/ . You can also view past meetings on this page with video on demand. In order to better facilitate access to our programming, we have also recently begun broadcasting live on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/CityOfWestbrookMaine
