We continually seek membership on our boards, commissions, and committees that reflects the diversity of our community.
All interested applicants (both new applicants and those seeking to renew their appointments) must complete the Application for Membership to a Board, Commission, or Committee. Please contact the City Clerk's Office at 207-591-8131 for assistance.

Board of Assessment Review
The Board of Assessment Review is a panel composed of seven citizens appointed by the City Council. Its function is to decide taxpayer appeals of the Assessor's valuation of real and personal property.

Fair Hearing Authority
The Fair Hearing Authority hears the appeals of any person aggrieved by a decision, act, failure to act or delay in action concerning that person's application for General Assistance.

Library Advisory Committee
The Library Advisory Committee assists the Walker Memorial Library Director in identifying community interests and needs, in developing long- and short-term goals, and in developing library policy for Council consideration.

Parks & Cemeteries Board of Trustees
The City of Westbrook's Parks and Cemeteries Board of Trustees is tasked with monitoring the general condition and affairs of cemeteries.

Planning Board
The Planning Board is the approval body for allowable residential and commercial development. In addition, the Planning Board is an advisory body to the City Council on matters related to the Land Use Ordinances, Contract Zoning and the Comprehensive Plan.

Public Safety Commission
The Public Safety Commission assists in coordinating the hiring and promotion of members in the Police, Fire & Rescue, and Emergency Communications Departments.

Recreation & Conservation Commission
The Westbrook Recreation and Conservation Commission protects and promotes green spaces large and small.

Registration Appeals Board
This board serves to hear appeals from persons aggrieved by the decision of the Registrar of Voters to cancel or reject that person's voter registration record.

Sewer Commission
The Sewer Commission charged with the administration of the public sewerage system.

Veteran Services Advisory Committee
The Veteran Services Advisory Committee serves to promote services and resources available to veterans and their families in the City of Westbrook. In addition, the Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor's Office to advocate for the needs of Westbrook veterans.

Village Review Overlay Zone Committee
This Committee is charged with reviewing development within the Village Review Overlay Zone, and provides guidance to the Planning Board, City staff and developers, promotes the architectural integrity of the zone, and reviews proposals for compliance with VROZ standards.

Westbrook Environmental Improvement Corporation
A nonprofit corporation named Westbrook Environmental Improvement Corporation (WEIC), owned solely by the City of Westbrook. WEIC’s purpose is to coordinate the implementation of tax increment financing districts and to impose standards on their use to produce a public benefit greater than that produced by individual districts. Each WEIC project will meet the City’s most significant needs within the following four categories: land improvements, water improvements, air improvements, and municipal solid waste improvements.

Zoning Board of Appeals
The Board has the jurisdiction and authority to act on all administrative appeals, variance appeals, and miscellaneous appeals.
