With current open positions, The Westbrook Police Department is seeking lateral transfer and new hire officers to fill full-time police officer positions.
Some facts about Westbrook PD:
EXCELLENT BENEFITS PACKAGE: 20 year retirement under MPERS; competitive salaries and steps; specialty, educational, and physical fitness stipends; generous vacation and sick leave accruals; low employee contributions to health and dental care; and an 8.5-hour work schedule that provides five days off every thirteen days.
BENEFITS OF TRANSFERRING TO WESTBROOK PD: Transfer candidates will be placed on the contractual salary, vacation, and sick leave scale at the rate equal to their years of full time law enforcement experience. Successful candidates that are academy graduates with 5 years of full time law enforcement experience receive a $14,000.00 bonus, paid out in two installments: $7,000 upon final job offer and $7,000 upon successful completion of the one-year probationary period.
HOURLY PAY RATES: From $19.96 for 0 – 1 year, with annual increases working up to $24.65 at five years, $25.45 at nine years, and $27.14 at eighteen years. --- Specialty and educational stipends are added to the base salary rate, increasing the hourly rate even more. --- Salary steps include an increase each year up to five years, then additional increases at seven, nine, twelve, fifteen, and eighteen years. (Additional 2% effective 01/01/18)
OPPORTUNITIES AT THE WESTBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT: Career development opportunities are available through specialty assignments (drug and D/V investigators, detectives, SROs, Joint Terrorism Task Force, tactical team member, crisis negotiator, motorcycle patrol, bike patrol, traffic car, and canine) and promotional opportunities; our training program is progressive; there is ample opportunity for overtime; we encourage officers to be self-motivated and active in the community.
Our department of 40 sworn officers serves and protects a population of roughly 18,000 residents. Adjacent to the City of Portland, our officers handle a steady volume of calls for service and still have the flexibility for self-initiated activity. We are a community policing oriented department, looking for civic minded candidates with demonstrated initiative and strong communication skills.
SELECTION PROCESS: Interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological and medical exam, and physical agility test. We are not looking for perfect candidates…we’re looking for honest candidates who are reasonably physically fit and still have a passion for public service.
