Responsibilities and Services 

The Planning Board is the approval body for allowable residential and commercial development. In addition, the Planning Board is an advisory body to the City Council on matters related to the Land Use Ordinances, Contract Zoning and the Comprehensive Plan.

Meeting Schedule

The Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month. Additional meetings are held, at the discretion of the Chairman, on the third Tuesday of the month and/or as needed. Please see the 2017 Submission and Meeting Dates

Board Composition

The Planning Board is composed of nine (9) members appointed by the Mayor, subject to the approval of the City Council. Members represent each of the City's five (5) wards and two (2) members are selected from the city at-large. In addition, two (2) alternates are appointed from the city at-large. All terms are for five (5) years and the nine (9) members must be residents and registered voters of the City of Westbrook.

Contact Us/Public Comments

Correspondence to the Planning Board may be made via mail to the Planning Department at 2 York Street, Westbrook, ME 04092. Correspondence may also be submitted via E-mail. Staff of the City of Westbrook deliver all letters and emails to the Board at the discretion of the Planning Board and/or applicable laws.

If correspondence is related to an application before the Board, it must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. the Thursday prior to the meeting date at which the application will be reviewed by the Board. Information submitted after the deadline will be delivered to the Board at the next available meeting. This does not apply to comments made at a scheduled public hearing.

Direct contact with a Planning Board member by an applicant or member of the public in relation to an application under review by the Board is strongly discouraged. These discussions may be deemed to be "ex-parte" communication, which may have legal ramifications on an application or appeal.
